WJRO STATEMENT ON SCHIELE ARTWORK RETURNED TO HEIRS LOOTED DURING THE HOLOCAUST

In Manhattan, seven Schiele artworks returned to heirs of Fritz Grünbaum,

 killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust

York, NY)  September 20, 2023:  The World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO) welcomes the return today of seven works by Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele to the heirs of Fritz Grünbaum, a Viennese cabaret artist who was killed in the Dachau concentration camp in 1941.

Gideon Taylor, President, WJRO issued the following statement:

“We warmly welcome the decision to return the Schiele artwork to the rightful Grünbaum heirs. This underscores the significant strides we are making in the realm of looted art restitution and look forward to more positive developments.”
