WJRO #MyPropertyStory Webinar Series: Early Property Restitution Efforts: Slovakia, Hungary, France
This is the third in a series of WJRO film screenings and discussions that will continue the global conversations sparked during the social media #MyPropertyStory campaign. The series aims to continue to elevate the personal stories of Holocaust survivors and their families.
WJRO is proud to present a discussion about immediate postwar restitution efforts. The webinar examines how some European countries approached Holocaust property restitution—the similarities and differences, challenges and accomplishments—and the meaning of reclaiming property from a transnational perspective. Panelists will also discuss ongoing efforts to secure a measure of justice for Holocaust survivors and their descendants.
Hosted by Gideon Taylor, Chair of Operations, WJRO, this webinar features Dr. Anna Cichopek-Gajraj, associate professor of history at Arizona State University, Dr. Shannon Fogg, professor of history at Missouri University of Science & Technology, and Dr. Borbála Klacsmann, independent Holocaust historian based in Hungary. -

WJRO is proud to present Menachem Kaiser, author of the critically acclaimed book, Plunder: A Memoir of Family Property and Nazi Treasure. This debut book chronicles his quest to reclaim his family’s property in Poland and the astonishing entanglement with Nazi treasure hunters that follows.
The webinar focused on the book and also examined Holocaust era property restitution in Poland. Hosted by Gideon Taylor, Chair of Operations, WJRO, the webinar featured a presentation by Dr. Joanna Sliwa, Historian, Claims Conference, and an interview with Menachem Kaiser. -
#MyPropertyStory Film Series: Survivors Returning Home After the Holocaust
WJRO is proud to introduce the first in a series of film screenings and discussions that will continue the global conversations sparked during the social media #MyPropertyStory campaign. The series aims to continue to elevate the personal stories of Holocaust survivors and their families.
The first film screening and discussion focused on the astonishingly haunting, award-winning film 1945, directed and co-written by Ferenc Török, which examines the deep undercurrents that run beneath the surface in a quaint village that is ultimately forced to face up to its “ill-gotten gains” after the Holocaust.
The virtual panel discussion focused on how an Eastern European town dealt with the aftermath of the Holocaust and its sense of responsibility to survivors. Hosted by Gideon Taylor, Chair of Operations, WJRO, and featuring Ferenc Török, director and co-writer of the film 1945, Dr. Joanna Sliwa, Historian, Claims Conference, and Professor Menachem Steiner, second generation survivor whose family returned to their small town after the Shoah. -
WJRO Presents: JUST Act Report Anniversary Webinar
Last July, the US State Department released the groundbreaking Justice for Uncompensated Survivors Today (JUST) Act Report, which reflects the importance the US government places on finding a measure of justice for Holocaust victims, survivors, and their heirs.
To mark the one-year anniversary of the JUST Act Report, WJRO presented a webinar hosted by Gideon Taylor, Chair of Operations, WJRO, featuring a one-on-one discussion with Cherrie Daniels, Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues, US Dept of State, to address recent Holocaust era property achievements in Europe and focus on progress going forward.
