The Caritatea Foundation is a partnership of the World Jewish Restitution Organization (WJRO) and the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania (FEDROM).  Established in 1997, Caritatea makes claims for former Jewish communal property in Romania. It also manages properties that have been returned and compensation payments for such properties.

Ambassador Colette Avital, Jehuda Evron, and Dr. Isaac Sheps have accepted WJRO’s appointment to serve as our representatives on the Board of Directors of the Caritatea Foundation.  Nachliel Dison will continue as our representative, as well.

Ambassador Avital will serve as President of the Board of Directors of the Caritatea Foundation.

Below please find a brief description of their backgrounds.

Ambassador Colette Avital, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, is a prominent former Israeli diplomat and parliamentarian. She currently serves as Chair of the Center of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel.

Jehuda Evron is a leading advocate on behalf of Holocaust survivors and their families seeking restitution.  A survivor from Iasi, Romania, Mr. Evron is President of the Holocaust Restitution Committee.

Dr. Isaac Sheps has served as CEO/President or Chairman of the Board of major businesses in Romania and throughout Europe and the Former Soviet Union.  A former Lieutenant Colonel in the Israeli Air Force, he is recognized as a quality management expert.  He was born in Romania.

Nachliel Dison is Acting Director General of the World Jewish Restitution Organization.
